MRI Exam, Images, Head, Radiologicum Munich

Which examinations are performed?

Various examination methods are used to investigate the brain. All examinations are carried out with state-of-the-art equipment to ensure gentle and informative examinations.
After an extensive preliminary discussion covering undiagnosed symptoms, pain, family history or pre-existing conditions, our doctors determine in each individual case whether the brain check-up is necessary, and what diagnostic method should be used.

Magnetic resonance imaging

Using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the structures of the brain can be studied in order to identify at an early stage, for example, existing impairment of brain perfusion (blood circulation) or degenerative changes. The examination is completely painless and free of radiation exposure.
MR angiography is a special form of magnetic resonance imaging used to display the cerebral arteries. With this examination method, previously unnoticed vascular changes can be detected in time, which is particularly important for the prevention of a stroke. In some cases administration of an intravenous contrast agent is necessary for the MRI scan.

Brain scintigraphy

A brain scintigrapyis used to investigate the metabolic processes of the brain through the administration of low-level radioactive substances. Thus it is possible to track the movement of neurotransmitters in the brain, or to compare the blood flow to the various brain regions. In this way circulatory disorders of the brain can be detected at a very early stage.
The brain scintigraphyis also used for evaluation of memory disorders such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and in the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.
